Congratulations to Cathy who was engaged in a tense battle with Emer and Clare in the final. She cooked up a storm on Sunday evening last and won the judges over with her Harvest Moon wedding cake. It was a magnificent creation and her consistency during the twelve weeks of the competition saw her walk away with the coveted title. Every success in the future Cathy.

Carol Service

See below a selection of photographs from the very successful “Jingle Belles” Carol Concert held in St. Louis Secondary School on Thursday evening last. Patrons were treated to a feast of carols old and new, drama, dance and instrumental music with some seasonal reflections. The Musical Director Ms Caroline Duffy worked tirelessly with the girls to ensure a magical performance. We are grateful to all for giving of their time to help us all experience the real meaning of Christmas. A sincere thank you to all for the very generous donations made to Monaghan Cancer Treatment Support and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Monaghan. A presentation was made on the evening to representatives from both groups.

Basketball Finalists

Captain Verity

On the 10th of December the U 19 basketball team from St. Louis Secondary School Monaghan travelled to Kingscourt Co. Cavan to play in the North East division ‘’A’’ league final against Virginia college.  The girls went into the match as favourites after winning all of their previous league encounters this year. However, they had only narrowly beaten their final opponents by 2 points in their first meeting  and they knew this game would be a very tight contest as Virginia were aiming to get their name on the cup for the third year in a row.
A strong start by Virginia meant they were leading 5 points to 0 after 3 minutes but a time-out called by coach Tom O’Connor quickly sorted the situation as the Louis girls came back out fighting and it was this fight that led them to a 13 point victory. A full team effort was required in a tiresome yet thrilling contest. All subs were used and each player put every last bit of their energy into the game. The team consisted of captain Verity O’Connor, Ellen Mulligan, Amy Mulligan, Natasha Hughes, Rachel Gallagher, Meghan McKenna, Celia Leblon, Kate Aughey and Lucy McDonald. Congratulations to the girls on this great achievement and we wish them the best of luck in their subway All Ireland semi-final which takes place on the 12th of January. A sincere thank you to Ms Amy Rooney and Tom O Connor for their words of encouragement to the team on the day. Well done girls!
