Former De La Salle Student Ruari Nevin Maguire wins the prestigious Gwenda Hurst memorial medal

Ruari Nevin Maguire, who graduated from De La Salle College in June 2015 has won the Gwenda Hurst Memorial Medal for obtaining the highest result in Ireland in the Leaving Certificate higher level Geography paper. This is an outstanding achievement considering 19,795 pupils sat the Leaving Certificate Higher Level Geography paper in Ireland with 3.2% achieved an A1 grade.  Dr. Shelagh Waddington, Chair of the Gwenda Hurst Trustees and Mr. Cathal Loftus, President of the Association of Geography Teachers of Ireland recently presented the the Gwenda Hurst medal to Ruari in the library of De La Salle College.  A presentation was also made to Ruari’s Geography Teacher Ms. Orlaith Mc Sweeney. The staff and Management of De La Salle College would like to wish Ruari, who is currently studying Medicine in UCC, every success for the future. All in De La Salle College are very proud of his outstanding achievement.
