F.C.J. Bunclody team wins the Senior Energy Award 2018

Congratulations to FCJ Bunclody on their success in the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards 2018 which aims to raise awareness, understanding and knowledge of our environment among young people, promote the protection and conservation of our environment and promote the personal development of young people through practical environmental projects and activities.

The F.C.J. Secondary School team decided to do a project on Wind Turbines to raise awareness of their benefits as there are several wind farms in the locality.  The main goal was to educate people in the locality about wind farms and to encourage locals to have a more positive attitude towards them. They achieved this by surveying people in the community to find out their opinion, handed out information flyers, held an energy awareness event in school where “Timmy The Turbine” went on tour, had a speaker visit a local youth club and hosted a walk up to Ballycadden Wind Farm.

The team put in a lot of work  to with their project titled “Timmy The Turbine” get to the All-Ireland Finals joining the eighty teams in the final from an original entry of  three hundred and twenty teams. The three judges were very impressed with the FCJ group and they were announced as Energy Award Senior winners”.
